Hi,

Just bought this card which arrived on friday 13/01/12. Installed card and Everything seems fine. First thing i noticed when playing BF3 on ultra settings @ 1680 x 1050 was the sound of the cards fans, sounded like a jet was taking off inside my case and annoyingly loud, loaded up afterburner and my fans were on 100% auto and after about 30 mins of BF3 my card was reading over 105!!! Idles at 37-40 tho.
Been using GPUZ, Afterburner, CCC and Realtemp to check the temps and there all the same readings. My CPU only showed 55 on full loads and its OC @ 3.4ghz. I have a Coolmaster HAF case and 700 Artic psu. I have removed side panel for more airflow as a test but makes little difference. Been running some gpu tests, like 3d mark, Furmark & heaven. 3d Mark and Heaven both hits over 100 and fans obviously at 100% screaming their faces off and when i run Furmark my pc shuts down, i can see the temp climb up to over 105 in no time at all before it dies. I have tried a different pci slot but to no avail. Is there anything else i can test or is it likely this card is faulty?

Sounds like its coolers not making good contact with the cpu, id send it back and get it replaced. Friday the 13th purchase too

LOL @ Friday 13th purchase!

Searching ocuk forums and there seems to be a few issues with overheating on these cards, Any reason why?
So it looks like the card is at fault? Is it worth calling tech support for some advice or just call customer services to arrange a return?

I have RMA the card now, 105 degrees a bit to hot and 100% fans far to loud!!! Cant be normal :)

As i only bought this 6 days ago would i just get a replacement or will they test this say there is no fault and send it back to me as there seems to be a few post where this has happened?

How did this go? I have had the same issue with same card. I sent an email and was told the temps were fine. Since then I have noticed the odd green flash while playing back video and had a few lockups that have killed the graphics driver with a crazy screen. The only problem is some days it can be fine, other days it's worse. I am concerned they will get it back and test it out on a bench in this cold weather and it won't suffer.

My 6950 Twin Frozr III unlocked and overclocked to 6970 speeds maxed out in a 30C room temp gets to about 64C max. At lower room temps it is a lot closer to 60C

(30C was due to the wife "adjusting the heating" without me knowing. I was wondering what was going on to begin with : ) )

RMA it.

I took the cooler of mine and the thermal paste was a mess due to the cooler not being secured properly. i got some ear bud things and cleaned the card up, re-applied some decent thermal paste and mine went from mid 70's idle and 104-105oC full load to 40-50idle and 70top. Added to this i can't hear my card which is nice as before it sounded like a jet was taking off. Note this will be seen as voiding warranty with OCUK.

Theres an easy way round that problem. Don't say anything about removing the cooler.

It seems they only see overheating as a problem if it's causing artifacts. I want to get my money back and buy a 580 instead. I regret not getting one in the first place now. I am a little wary to send it back as I just have the feeling they will just send it back saying it's within operating temps. I've been using overclockers for several years and I'm a little disappointed. I know the issues with the card are not their fault, but I have been made to feel like a con artist trying to con them and it makes me feel very uncomfortable as I am not the type to kick up a fuss. It's causing me a lot of stress which I really don't need right now.

I have the exact same problem as the OP which was outlined in my previous thread regarding what sort of action to take. I tried calling OCUK to RMA the card but the guy on the other line told me they won't accept the card since it's technically not "faulty".

My card is also a jet taking off and idles at around 55-60 and tops out at a good 90-103 or so in demanding games. I ran Furmark for 12 hours, no crashes but the card peaked at 103 which is no surprise to me at this moment in time. So basically, I can't take the cooler off due to a lack of experience and not wanting to void the warranty but I also can't stand the noise and the excessive heat it's producing so I am sorta stuffed using it until it either starts crashing or producing artifacts. :(

I've replied to their initial response. If they won't accept the card as faulty I guess I will be taking the heatsink off and reapplying some paste. But I am afraid it will be my last order with overclockers if this is the case, their loss will somebody else's gain.

You may want to get in touch with MSI directly.

If you RMA with them you may get a fully tested Lightning card in return.

Guess I'll be doing the same since OCUK are basically refusing to RMA my card since overheating and throttling is apparently not "faulty". Anyone got the contact details for MSI's RMA service? can't really find a number or an email on their site.

Enable your trust (click on the trust button in one of your own posts and follow the instructions).

Sent ALXAndy a message via trust, by clicking on the trust button in one of his posts and, and ask him how he contacted MSI.

I can't see an easy way to contact MSI as they don't normally deal with RMA's directly for graphics cards.

From the MSI representative:

Our direct RMA service is operated by a team in the Netherlands, they do not offer tech support, they only provide and handle RMA's and typically only RMA's from resellers direct or customers whose reseller has refused to help them out.

He doesn't have "Trust" as he only has 7 posts.

Post in the Customer Service forum or ring up, that is CLEARLY a faulty card, they're fobbing you off. Very disappointing service and I wouldn't stand for it myself.

Edit: Have emailed Gibbo for you with a link to this thread, hopefully he will be along soon with a proper reply.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe that's a barrier to enabling trust.

He just doesn't have enough posts/time on the forum for enabling trust to gain access to the Members Market.

There are forum members with less than 100 posts who have enabled trust.
