Hi people
The mother in law was moaning her Dell PC was louder than normal so I opened it up to find the heatsink and fan assembly had somehow broken and wasn't making proper contact.
I googled the board to find it was a LGA775 or socket T board so purchased a standard heatsink and fan as a replacement......however the new one has the plastic push through the board connectors and the board has screw thread connectors.....
Is there any way of making this work??
Regards

Was the old cooler an aftermarket one? If so it's likely the CPU back plate is still in place at the back of the motherboard - remove it and then you'll be able to press the new coolers plastic tabs in place.

It will be a proprietary dell motherboard fitting

Best option is to scan auction site to see if you can get a like for like replacement to be honest

Thanks for the tips guys it did have a backplate which I managed to remove and then push out the screw threads and all is good :thumbs-up:
