Advice needed on how to do a poster style border.

I was thinking about printing a couple of images off to put up at home. I already have a couple framed within a card mount within the frame itself but I was toying with the idea of doing a poster style border so I could do away with the mount and just use an outer frame.

I did a very quick mock up to explain what I mean:

Couple of questions that I have are:

What would be a good font as I only have standard ones so will look in to getting some better ones off the net?
Whats the best way to lay the text out?
What proportion should the outer border be to the main image?

I've seen some nice tasteful ones in shops before but I've been scratching my head for a while trying to work out what looks nice and in the end decided a quick mock up and ask a few questions in the hope someone has some good suggestions might be more useful lol

Ok this should be easy enough.

1. Hmm i can't provide you with a specific choice, but i can provide you with a million to choose from http://www.dafont.com/theme.php?cat=601&text=Missy+XS i would look at the themes or categories and go for what you like.

2. Depends on what photo software you have. I would use photohsop in my case, and the title would be centred (you can do this by opening the Paragraph windows, or by creating two different text layers and adjusting accordingly) in a large font, with my name as a smaller font underneath, very much like you example.

3. Depends on what size your printing it. Lets take A4 as an example.
For best printing purposes, rather than creating borders i would open a new A4 document with a white background in photoshop and then open my picture, drag it onto the white background and free transfrom accrodingly (cropping where necessary)


I dont think there is anything wrong with the one you did, why do you feel the need to imporve it, i misread your post at first and didn't realise you hadn't taken a proper mounted photo.
