My current HTPC/Server is getting on a bit and am considering an upgrade/new system
Current system is abit ab9 pro and Q6700 with 6 GB of DDR2 ram
and a series 7 gpu
Am needing more sata slots as i am out of these even with the sata raid card already in there

Have a LSI sata/sas card i picked up a while ago so want to use this(it says it needs a x8 pci-x slot)

So is this a good choice
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-018-AS
Not playing games on this at all
My other pcs are all Intel so advise me please

In conclusion i am wanting a system with the capability to run x16 pci-x for the video card along side a x8 pci-x for the lsi sata/sas card :)

The only thing is it will run at 8X for the GFX card if you you fit your controller into the 2nd slot which will also get 8X.
That would not cause issues on 1080P playback would it?
No gaming on this system at all, purely watching BD`s via optical drive and HD /DVD rips

Also any recommendations on ram
Would I benefit from an after market cooler?

The difference even in gaming between a 16X slot and a 8X slot is around 2-3% (techpowerup have tested this) that is going to be more demanding than playing video back.

Also the board itself has one or two different display outputs so you could do away with a GFX card altogether which is something you cant do with that AMD option.

RAM - Teamgroup Vulcun 8Gb or 16GB 2400Mhz in red are on offer.

If this is going in a living room then throwing the stock cooler in the bin and using an aftermarket one will be a good idea.

Did I tell you that the intel option is faster?

Thinking of going for this
As I have been thinking of upgrading the cpu in my main pc from a 4690 to a 4790 for the extra cores
and using the 4690 from my current main pc into the new mobo
Anything wrong with my choice above?
Oh and minus OCUK shipping and £29 cashback on these products,is that right?:)

Something else to consider, thank you mickyflinn
However that mobo does not have M2 sata only sata express
Is sata express not so readily available or popular I believe?

Thanks Stullid for the Ram correction
Colour matching not a problem as it will be going inside a Big case, think it is a monster Fractel(can`t remember and has no label on it:o)

Gear arrived today with usual prompt service from OCUK
Typing this on a spangly new 4790K
Won`t have time until the weekend to set up my old 4690K and new ram and mobo :D

Just had a quick play with mobo and old cpu
mobo has F7 bios but F8 bios says this

  1. Supports Intel® 5th Generation Core™ Processor
  2. This BIOS prohibits updating to earlier version BIOS
  3. Does this mean no downgrading of the bios if i instal F8,is this a good thing?Shall i upgrade bios before i go th the trouble of installing OS and all my hdds?

Just got confirmation of my cashback :D
Thanks Stulid, would not have known about this except for you
In the end I did not use the LSI sata/sas card, took too long to post and did not like my 4TB hdds.Went for an additional 2 pci-x 4 port sata cards, these connected to my 4TB drives without a hitch
