Advice needed on MSI

Hello,

Took a little bit of a gamble on a 1080ti, I bought a customer returned and untested card for £320. I knew there was a reasonable chance it wouldn't work but seller has a 14 day returns policy so I figured if it doesn't work I'd send it back.

I received the card, when I put it in my system it sparked and then actually set on fire briefly. I'm not sure what the issue was but it wasn't my other hardware as my 2 other cards are fine. Maybe a faulty VRM? I contacted MSI who have given me authorisation for an RMA.

Now, my choices are to either return the card and get my money back, or proceed to RMA it and have it repaired/replaced and end up having a card worth £700 that cost me £320

It looks like the previous owner somehow managed to bend the IO plate slightly so I'm worried MSI might reject it. If they do reject it I could still sell the card as faulty for £200 or so.

What would you do in my position?

Personally i think there has to be something up as why did they not RMA it in the first place and you then have to ask why they are selling it on for £320. Something does not sit right with me about this. Have you checked to see if the cooler has been taken off which would void the RMA.

I just find it weird that instead of going down the RMA route themselves they punted it on for £320. I would be asking myself why were they willing to take such a hit instead of what you are thinking about doing and getting a replacement with the full value.
