Hi everyone,

I have just bought a load of new bits from OcUK to build a new system and after reading some posts about stability / poor overclocking potential of having all 4 memory slots full I started to worry about my purchase!
Should have researched a bit more before splashing out!

Heres what I bought:

Q6600 G0 Stepping
Arctic Cooler 7 Pro and some AS5
Abit IP35 Pro
4 x 1GB Geil DDR2 ULL
OcUK 8800 GTX
Antex P180 Case

Whats your opinion on this setup specifically the RAM. Should I return it and get some 2x2gb modules instead? Is it really worth getting some faster rated than Pc-6400 - Or just stick to 2gb Geil and return the other kit? Im looking to use 32bit Vista so wont get the full 4gb, but can get 64bit OS if that would be more suitable. This system is mainly for games.

I was hoping to mildly overclock this, maybe to 3ghz as it seems thats possible from looking at other peoples systems on here.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Hi and welcome :)

You should be fine with 4 sticks. Far more people run with four 1gb sticks than two 2gb sticks.

Hi Cob,

Ok thanks - Thats put my mind at rest; Ill stick with the Geil then :) I was getting the impression that no one really runs 4 sticks.

Its all turning up tomorrow - can't wait. Should be a good upgrade from the ropey old 2.4 p4 agp machine I have at the moment!

That will be a hell of an upgrade :D

One thing to do is only have one memory stick installed on the first boot, then go straight into your BIOS and set the memory to its correct voltage of 2.1v, and give the northbridge (MCH) voltage a boost by 0.1v to strengthen it for four sticks. You can save that and then install the other three sticks.

thanks cob for the tip thats really useful.

Any other tips on how to get this system to a stable 3ghz :)

Im not a newcomer to pcs by any stretch but this is the first system i will try and overclock.

This forum is great just been reading (and learning from )the very long ip35 overclocking thread.
