Hi,

I am currently in the process of putting a kit list together to build my first PC & I am in need of some advice on what PSU I will need to power the following components: -

1 x Asus P5N32-E SLI NF680i SLI, S 775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 533/667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX Motherboard

1 x Intel Core 2 Quadro Extreme Edition QX6700 CPU

1 x EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX KO ACS3 SILENT 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail Graphics card

1 x OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-9200 1150 MHz Watercooled Dual Channel DDR2
memory

Will I need a 1000 watt psu or will I get away with a samller unit?

Thanks.

Thanks for the advice Will but OcUK recommends a minimum of 550 watts for the 8800GTX graphics card alone.

I am now really confused because another guy on a different forum also recommended a 480 watt PSU would do the trick.

The Corsair 620 would be my minimum TBH, have a look also at the Enermax range.

The HX620W will power that easily- the 520W would probably do it fine but I'd go for the 620W anyway. On another note, buy yourself a sensible processor- there's no point wasting money on QX6700- I would have thought an E6600 would be more than fine ;)

Hi

I have my entire rig running on a 600W tagan with no strain or instability what so ever, in fact I have had it running on a 480w tagan easily and even a budget 350w from an old computer case ran the rig although it wasnt happy when under load.

To be honest with you as long as you get a decent, named and stable powersupply, some from tagan, corsair etc you will be fine, personally id go for a tagan dual engine 600w or above or a corsair 620.

That system would run off 500W but I would advise going with something like the Antec 650W, Corsair 620W if you want head-room for overclocking CPU, memory GPU etc.

I'm running a Tagan 580w and have been for 5 months with my BFG 8800GTX
no problems.
