Hi
MY Hp H8 PC wont support the GTX750ti i have so i got a new board
my Pc is a HP H81075uk
The new board is an Asus H61mf 1155 socket
I want to swap over but have a few questions

1. is there any way to use my original Windows 7 , its tied to the old board i know, is there any way to make it work with the key on my old machine ?
2 old board has onboard wifi, can i swap this little doo hicky to the new board ?
3. how do i get it ready to swap ? will all my programs work ?
4. the HP has a card for TV tuner and an HP remote, will it work again ?

5. its terrifying to look at swapping it all over. i have built multivalve car engines without worrying but this scares me

6 i'm not silly and have worked on pc's before but never replaced a mobo

Help ?
Steve

I was sort of interested in this, had nowt to do so I looked up the HP

Is this your machine ?
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c02920720-20

I looked up the Asus
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H61MF/specifications/

On the HP site it says your CPU is
i7 2600 3.4 GHz LGA1155

On the Asus support site it does not mention that CPU
http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/...1&s=39&m=H61M-F&os=&hashedid=Ei7BQD2bltpaS5dp

I would double check this before ripping the CPU out and fitting it into the Asus.

Sorry if this info is wrong.

And as for Windows 7

The HP board will have SLIC2.1 in it's BIOS.
This will be married to the HP OEM CERT and KEY.
This is what makes the Windows genuine and activated.

The Asus board will NOT have this SLIC2.1 info in it's BIOS.

A retail copy would have to be used.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes that's my pc
i guessed that as it said 2nd gen I7 it would work
Is there no way of getting the SLIC2.1 from my HP to the new board?
Looks like i'll have to buy another Mobo and different CPU ... money too tight to mention ..
All i want to do is get back onto Elite Dangerous ..

A way to add SLIC2.1 onto the Asus mobo....

Well there is !

I know how !

But I can not go into any detail of how to do this.
Wrong place all together.

have a look here

What is the problem with the new GPU.

I suppose only one way to find out if the CPU will work on the Asus board.

Try Googling that and see what you can find out.

Ok, i wont press you as it's obviously a bit on the shady side, i figured it's my pc, bought and paid for with windows and i should be able to use the software it has.. if you bought a ford and then ford said you cant swap the engine for a new one i would be a bit fed up (and do it anyway)

The Gpu is a GTX750TI and is later spec PCIe, my mobo has an early Bios and apparently needs version 8 for this card to run, i sold the old GPU (amd7970?) at the same time i bought the new one and now i'm stuck with onboard Graphics

All this is info i have either read or been told by my son, i'm kicking myself for flogging my old card

I have done a Google search on the Asus + CPU and from what I have read all would be OK.

Dig out the tools and rip the HP to bits and build up the Asus and the new GPU.

If it were me I would be backing up all my important files and installing a new copy of Windows.

Ok Thanks for that
I've also been googling and i need a few other things before i start
Got to buy : thermal paste, new cooler does not have it, Wifi card, the new board does not have the little connector to plug my existing onboard card into it, Windows 7.
As this is my only PC, once its off, i can only use my smartphone for googling.

can you point me to a reasonable guide for backing up stuff ready ? or should i move all docs and pics to my 2nd empty 1TB Hdd on here ?

Thanks for the help
Steve

On the PSU front i have newer Seasonic version as the old HP went pop at Xmas 2014
i think its a 750w , it has lots of extra connectors and i could plug twin powers into my old GPU (amd 7950)

Backing up your files.

Using a second HDD is a good way.
A guide ?
Sorry.
If your going to use a HDD just simply copy the files over.
I would suggest going to
C:\Users\(user name)
Then simply copy over the folders. Not forgetting the Favourites too.

Before starting you may want to think about sourcing Windows 7.

Sorry but it makes me chuckle when folk only have one PC.
I have two up and running plus all the laptops. Plus my sons gaming rig.

If ya live near West Yorkshire, pop in and we'll get it built up.

Seems like the PSU will be fine.

I just tried to use "trust" and send you some extra details.

"trust" me and I can help you out.

Work beckons right now though.
