Advice needed on upgrading a laptop to W10 and changing the HDD.

My mum has a Sony laptop with Windows7 on it and I want to swap out the HDD for an SSD for her and I figure I may as well upgrade it to Windows 10 while i'm at it. My plan is to do the Windows 10 upgrade first, swap out the HDD for the SSD and then do a fresh install of Windows 10. Could anyone confirm whether or not that will work or if there is another method?

That will work. I did the same process.

Just remember to backup your Mums files before you do anything.

that should be fine, make sure W10 is activated after doing the upgrade.

do a disk image before doing anything to be on the safe side.

Any idea if i'll need to install all the Sony software guff afterwards or is all that kinda stuff useless?
