Long time no post :o

I currently have a Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.66GHz in a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 mobo. I don't want to change my mobo but want to get a good value quad core cpu. My budget is £150. I was thinking of a Q6600 but I gather these are 'old' technology now so are a bit on the pricey side for what they are. Can anyone recommend an alternative?

Thanks in advance ;)

The Q6600 is still a good cpu and is better than the lower cache Q8000 series. For your budget i would try to pick up a second hand Q6600/6700. Otherwise there is the £146 Q9400 although it still only has 6mb of cache compared to the Q9*50 series 12mb.

Thanks for the advice pastymuncher

The reason I'm looking to upgrade is the recommended spec to run Dragon Age (due out Friday) is a 2.6ghz quad core cpu. Do you think it's worth upgrading my cpu or should I spend the £ on a gfx card?

Upgrading your graphics card would bring the biggest gain in normal circumstances as most games are GPU limited these days. I think that is the first game i have seen that has a quad as a recommended spec.
