Hi all,

a friend attempted to factory reset his acer aspire v5 laptop and part way through, it either crashed or powered off but now when you turn it on you see the acer splash screen then preparing automatic repair and then diagnosing your pc.

It looks to me like his recovery partition has had a funny turn, this is the first laptop ive had come to me with Win 8 and this new uefi bios so I'm wondering what's the next step?

I can't get into the bios at all, I was thinking of removing the hard drive and putting in my machine to see what partitions I can see, what do you all think?

Get Windows 8.1 iso via thread by kia... Can't link as on mobile just now.
Install then activate using key extracted from your bios.

How can I install it though? It's a notebook and when I attempted to boot from a linux live cd, it didn't want to know

Yes i know that, what I'm asking is how can I get to that stage?

What if I put the drive in my machine, and delete/format the Win8 partitions but leave the recovery partition?
