Hi, I'm seeking a computer spec for me and my son to build at home. I've had plenty of experience at assemblying computers, but obviously each time the technology has moved along. He has a budget of £2000 but knows the issues with the raising cost of RAM etc. He will use his computer for gaming, i.e. GTA 6, and some computer programming.

I feel ideally the motherboard and CPU should be reasonably up to date, so that the whole system doesn't need to be replaced in a few years. I know that future proofing is impossible, but I feel maybe wrongly that a solid motherboard and CPU is the way to go.

I'm unsure which way to go Intel or AMD with CPU or GPU

Purchase Timeframe: soon, a week or so

Budget:
£2000

Usage:
chiefly computer games i.e. GTA 6, Beam NG Drive, future games, etc., some programming use; possibly 1400p over 4K, as frame rate is important to him

Preferences:
reasonably quiet, doesn't have to be completely silent, decent tower with fans, room to install things without being a nightmare fit, bonus if it looks stylist, but doesn't have to be all flashing neon lights etc.

Current Hardware:
n/a

Peripherals:
don't need any

Special Needs/Requirements (inc Wi-Fi):
none

CPU: you wouldn't normally buy Intel for a pure gaming PC (Core Ultra 245/265k), only for mixed usage/productivity.

Graphics: for 1440p, at least a 5070 or 9070 non-XT for a £2K build, but guided by price/deals, since they've all seen hikes recently.

I know you want to build yourself, but worth looking at pre-builds at the moment, since they can bundle things cheaper than you can buy yourself.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,981.82 (includes delivery: £11.98)

I'm expecting £450 at a minimum, but apparently there's going to be some solid bundle (CPU/RAM/Mobo) deals that should see healthy savings.
yeah that's why no point speccing this evening. might as well wait and see.
the 9850x3d bundle may work out cheaper than buying the 9800x3d + ram + hsf separately
