Hi all, wonder if someone can help.

I'm thinking of going from my ageing original Radius 5.1 set to a Mass 5.1 set (I'm not particularly restricted by size, but have found them for £499 which seems a very good deal)

My question is, would it be worth it? Good alternative?

For info, Amp is Yamaha VSX 922 :)

cheers

Si

PS - Also been considering the MR4 5.1 set @ £599 from RS

Your Radius are superior to Mass. They are true mini monitor Hi-Fi speakers. Mass are designed for AV/music with the bias tilted to AV. At best the Mass would be a sideways move but more likely a downgrade.

MR is based on the original Bronze series BR1. There's some reductions in the cabinet construction to hit the price point. BR1s were the star product compared to the BR2. The tables turned when the range changed to BX.

The performance of the MR1 is less restricted by size compared to your Radius and the MASS system. However the cabinet construction is quite basic. I think you'd have to listen to both in the same dem just as stereo plus sub. Radius are very impressive, and it's why Monitor Audio have been trying to ape that success at a lower production cost first with the Vectors and then the MASS system.

Your amp sounds like a Pioneer model number BTW

Thanks for your input Lucid. I've done some fiddling with position and settings and tbh they still sound superb, I think I may be chasing change for change's sake.

I think they will last me another 9/12 months at least. When I do change, what kind of level do you recommend I look at? Current MA Bronze series and equivalent?

And apologies about the amp mixup, I was thinking of my previous one!! It is Pioneer :)

It really depends what you're looking for in terms of A versus music. If your aim is better AV then a large centre speaker from either the Bronze or Silver range and a better sub (BK XLS200 or 400). If it's music then we need more info about what space you have available and the amp. FWIW the Radius speakers set the bar quite high. Despite their small size they are potent little performers. You'll have to spend quite a bit to get something substantially better.
