Right, Mate has NTL. He bought a Linksys Cable Router and he has a Belkin USB Wirless adapter. His main PC is upstairs and the router is downstairs connected direct to the modem. He can't get it to work. He getss something about ssid?

Should he take his main pc downstairs to plug the router in to connect it up or can he do that from upstairs?

Is the Belkin the wrong make of adapter?

Help!! Thanks

He'll need to plug in the SSID the router's been set to use, though Windows or whatever should automatically spot it. If he needs to take the machine downstairs for it to see the router, it's never going to work when he takes it back.

Though without something more detailed than "He can't get it to work." it's hard to say what's wrong.

So, he should be able to set it up without taking the pc downstairs and plugging it directly to the Router?

Also, is a Belkin USB Wireless adapter ok to use with Linksys?

What does SSID mean?

hi

ive got a simular setup

ntl broadband with a wireless linksys router so i
get wireless im my house so that i can use my laptop, im also looking for an adapter for my pc upstairs?

2 things you could try:

update the firmware if you can or try resetting your wireless router, this would mean setting up your network again but it is easy to do

Just go through the CD wizard?

Should i install the USB Wireless adapter first before installing the router as that is downstairs.

to be honest im not sure about that because i havent got an adapter yet

but if there is something wrong with your router a reset and new setup with the wizard could sort it out, then try your adapter again?

also with your router you should get a signal upstairs

:)
