Hi Everyone,

I have been out of the PC gaming scene for a few years now so most of the technology now goes way over my head, although I have been busy doing as much research as possible so I have a very basic understanding of all the current hardware.

About 18 months ago I bought myself a HP Pavillion PC just for quickness because I wasn't really hardcore gaming or anything, it was just so I could play WoW, Star Wars the Old Republic etc, nothin too taxing. However, the inevitable has now happened... I want a better PC!

Here are the specs of my current machine:

Intel Core [email protected]
Motherboard: Pegatron 2AB5
12GB ram
GeForce GTX 550Ti
500w PSU

I bought myself a Geforce GTX760 2GB but unfortunately it would not work with my machine after spending nearly a day trying to get it to work. It would just freeze on the HP splash screen. After doing some research it appears that it was incompatible with my motherboard which I believe only has PCIe 1.0. Even though the card said it worked with PCI 1, 2 and 3.

I am starting a project soon to completely rebuild a PC but for now I was wondering if there was card out there to give me a bit of a boost that won't cost the earth. The whole PCie 1.0 thing worries me obviously, as it would have to be compatible with that.

Any advice offered if much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

might be worth seeing how much you could sell that machine for. Motherboard is pretty bad for gaming. The cpu is locked non-K version and judging by that I'll take a guess that the psu will not be able to handle anything mildly powerful.

PErsonally i'll not bother with getting a stop gap gpu. when you can build a new one, do so then.

I bought a new PSU when I got the GTX760, so the PSU is probably the best thing in it lol. I will have to bit the bullet at some point and invest in a new PC but I was hoping there was a card out there that would give me a boost for 6 months or so.
