Hi Guys,

Been drivin a Lexus IS 200 Auto for the last two years. Picked up a Z4 3.0 yesterday and looks like i have been done by a camera van today.

The road in question is now a 40 and used to be a 60. There are no schools or children anywhere near, but i was wondering what is likely to happen.

I think i was doing between 60-65 in a 40 which i know is not good. Its only when i looked up at my speedo i realised i was going that quick.

I people that speed in built up areas, child killers etc.

I am really bricking it now. I do have a clean licence and have been driving more than three years but really worried i will have to go to court!

please can you give me some advice

If you were genuinely doing 60-65 you'll probably be looking a 6pts and a few hundred quid fine. If your speedo overread a fair bit and you were actually in the 50s then might get away with 3pts but I doubt it.

You'll get 3 points and a 60 quid fine, you could even try arguing about the recent limit change. Child killer!
Can't see them dishing 3pts for 65 in a 40 tbh. 5mph more than that and he'd have been looking at a possible ban.

I am worried about going to court. I dont want that to be the case.

I dont mind taking the points i know i was in the wrong just bricking it about going to court

Problem is i am really not sure what speed i was doing. It felt qute quick but going from a lexus to that. Speedo is totally different etc. I know its a poor excuse but i looked up and saw the van down in the dip and immediately put Must be between 55-65 i think

I feel so bad right now. I normally never speed in built up areas one of my pet hates. My insurance is high enough without this. If its three points I can live with it, but just worried it will more.

Do you think mitigating circumstances could be used due to new car being something i have never had before.

Lexus 2.0 Auto is a slightly different drive. I just didnt realise i was going that quick :(

Also find out if the speed limit change has been done with all the legal follow through. Seems there has been a lot of speed limit changes done on roads with out going through the correct channels and therefore not legal.

The speed limit has been in force for over a year, so thats not really an excuse. I was trying to make the point that the road has no reason to be 40. Nothing anywhere near there. 60 the other side of the sign

I do hope so, I really feel I dont deserve this. The amount of people who live near us that go down my 30mph street at 90 + really annoys me

I guess i just have to pray i wasnt doing over 70. Im pretty sure i wasnt going that quick but it all happend so fast.

I guess i will just have to see

I will try and describe the situation.

Goes left a traffic lights onto a mini dual carriage way that is level for about 200 metres it then goes down hill into a dip. The camera van was parked in the dip with the back facing up the hill.

I would imagine that the camera van was pointing at the fast lane on the dual carriage way section which would mean as soon as i became visible at the top of the hill it would get me (:

I was driving towards the back of the van which was down at the bottom of the hill, but i didnt see a flash.

I thought camera vans work on infared an recording all the time

not flash

Depends on the area I think, the ones round here work like Gatsos so you drive towards the front of the van that is parked on your side of the road and the camera is facing out the back so it gets you as you go past like a Gatso and it flashes.
