hi all.

To cut a long story short the demon wife is letting me upgrade my ancient canabalised partially upgraded pc on the condition that what ever i get she gets aswell but only got a 2k budget (which would be fine if she didnt want the same stuff ).

I been out of the loop for years so i need advice on my current options compatability/reliability/mistakes (think my memorys wrong) etc.

If you have the time an informed upgrade list would be appreciated.

Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM + Windows 7 Upgrade
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz (AM3)
Asus Crosshair III Formula AMD 790FX (AM3)
Hiper M1000 Power 1000w Power Supply
XFX ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-E
Antec 902 Nine Hundred Two Ultimate Gaming Case
Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600MHz) Low Latency Tri-
Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.B 1TB SATA-II 16MB Cache
LG GH22NP20 22x DVD±RW IDE Dual Layer ReWriter

Also i wont be overclocking this an not sure how good the stock cpu cooler or case is, so may need to add a cpu cooler do want a system i can upgrade later add another card to etc.

It is for gaming but only 1680-1050 max res tho.

Thanks in advance for any replies help is appreciated :).

Then better off with a 4890 instead. Though for a 2k budget you could include a new bigger monitor.

You've chosen Tri-Channel RAM & Phenom II (still) uses Dual-Channel sticks (here).

Hiper PSUs left a bad taste here & most people still don't trust them. Get this instead.

Get either a Samsung F1 or WD Black HD. Those are considered fast ;)

EDIT: Number of people happily running the beta copy of Windows 7. Download & use that till its out which looks like will be soon (Oct)
