I've got a Asus A7N8X when I brought it back in 2003 I brought a stick of crucial
PC2700 DDR 512MB then a couple of months I brought another stick of what I thought at the time was a exactly the same type, as it turned out it wasn't. So I had a rough time trying to find out what a rebooting problem I was getting with both sticks of ram inserted, the solution was to set my memory to 133mhz instead of 166mhz. So what I'm asking is would this cause a problem with performance with games coz Im thinking of replacing this ram with a matched pair of a faster type. (trying to prevent a full upgrade)

Running your RAM on a divider is pretty bad on NF2 boards, you lose a lot of memory bandwidth and performance. With PC3200 being pretty cheap at the moment I'd invest in some of that, run it at 166mhz 1:1 with you CPU and you'll have plenty of headroom for overclocking.

Edit-On the other hand, your rig is never going to set any speed records nowadays, so maybe you should save the money and put it towards an overhaul in the future.
