Advice needed

Hi there

£600 to spend on CPU, motherboard and 2gb of ram.

What do I go for?

I already have 24inch Dell monitor, nice big black Silverstone case with Enermax 600w psu, Raptor HD 74gb.

All advice appreciated.

For CPU look no further than an E6600.

I can't see a whole lot of point upgrading anything more than that...that's a pretty decent spec. There isn't really anything worth getting over the 6600..it'll easily oc without problem to any dual core atm. The next step would be quad core, but it's not that necessary at the moment.

Could always get a 8800 if you really want to spend some money!

you could always upgrade the RAM to something like this if you wanna stay with 6400.

although it is rather pointless. I'd stick with the stuff I did origanally, shoulds overclock nicely.

Asus Commando Intel 965 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)

Little bit more than the £600 but this pc is going to last me for at least 2/3 years. Going to add another raptor and possibly a 8800.

Good decision although I would choose the OCZ or GeIL C4 RAM thats around the £100 mark at the moment, absolute bargain for performance @ stock and overclocking ability.
