I just ordered my 5870 1GB for £299.00

but my system = Q6600 @ 2.4ghz [STOCK, yes stock!]

i have never been able to overclock even to 2.6ghz with days and weeks of help

maybe a very unlucky mobo etc

i have a spare £600 and thinking wether its gona be worth biting the bullet and buying this? = http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-029-OB&groupid=43&catid=339&subcat=1801

but if my q6600 @ 2.4ghz will do the job i wont

but many people are telling me the 2.4ghz stock will bottleneck my 5870 something rotten, it arrives tomorrow and i want to know wether to buy the kit before the weekends here

my q6600 is honestly haunted

if i leave my computer switched off all nite

it will try to boot up and takes 10mins worth of auto rebooting before powering up

this is with everything in BIOS @ stock

ive tried multiple OS's and even linux

if i overclock it to above 2.4ghz it crashes constantly

i hate overclocking and the option of being overlocked at 4.0ghz ready for me by a professional puts me at ease

if i leave my q6600 at stock will the card suffer?

ive changed it all back down to default

every single thing = default

i was sick of the crashes etc

i have decided to buy the i7 kit instead lol

i just want to buy a overclocked kit which i never have to touch lol

no i havent :(

but if you could tell me the exact settings to do to get 3.0ghz stable or higher i would test them right away

my previous topics/posts i think u can click my name to view em

and normally i can get like 3.2-3.6ghz running through prime

but 1-12 hours later, random reboot

thats the main problem i always had, it just random reboots for no reason, only when i overclock, tested on fresh formats also :(

3.6ghz the temps on prime go to like 70-76
but 3.2 they stayed below 70

i wouldnt really care since i never care about prime to much its never crashed on me ever

i just dont like seeing the temps float above 70c after 10mins of testing

if i could get 3.0-3.2ghz stable without the random rebooting i would be super happy

im currently looking through forums again to get the exact settings for my bios

my core shud surely not be reading 1.40 after setting all to default?

Looking good this morning

now i have changed it to:-
speedstep disabled

9x400mhz = 3.2ghz
ram = 2.1v - 1:1 4-4-4-15
dram freq = 400mhz on cpuz
cpu volt = 1.44 on cpuz
NB = 1.2

and my 5870 should arrive anytime between now and 5.30pm :D
