HI guys and Girls,

Need some advice really...

At the moment i have a gtx 580 1.53gb msi OC version. I would like to go to 3monitor set up one day (with in the next 4months, when i have room).
I know that i have got to get another gtx 580 for £280-£300 to do this But if i sell my current gtx 580 for around £260-280 mark i could pick up a 2nd hand 6950 for
£160-170 and get another with whats left over from selling the 580 with only putting another £80-100 towards it, or sell my gtx 580 1.53gb and get the 3gb version of
the gtx 580 for the res i will be playing at 5760x1080.

So what should i do

get another gtx 580 1.53gb
or
sell my 580 and get 2 6950 2gb
or
sell my gtx 580 and get 580 gb

also i forgot to say i will need to buy waterblocks for them at the moment i have gtx 580 underwater..

Thanks,
Sgt T

I'm in the same boat as you with regards to wanting a 3 monitor set up in the near future with a MSI Twin Frozr GTX580 currently installed. My intention at the time was that I would pick up a cheaper 580 sometime down the road but there has been v little movement on prices. I have even considered sticking my 2 GTX260's back in just to get 3 screen up & running for work but that would mean sacrificing games (same pc used for both purposes). Personally, I'm still hanging on for GTX580 prices to lower or to get a 2nd hand one from somewhere for around the 200-250 mark, so for now sitting tight.

Don't you need 2 Nvidia cards to do a 3 monitor setup? So you need 2 x GTX580 3GBs not just the 1.
From that point of view the 2 x 2GB 6950s seem like the cheapest option and the 2GB VRAM would probably help at that resolution.

if your not going for 3 screens for another 4 months then just wait until then to decide what to do, in 4 months we could have the new cards from both camps or at the very least know a lot more about them.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if Nvidia sort out their only 2 screens per card with their next gpu, as that is one area where AMD definitely have the upper hand.

I have been reading that if you are going to 3monitor set up it is best to get 3gb version of the 580 cause of the res you will be playing at....

I don't plan to be gaming on 3 monitors (i.e surround vision), I would use 3 monitors for work, one main screen for gaming & I would have a 4th screen hooked up to a playseat & G25... tbh at the moment I do with 3 screen, 2 for work plus one on the playseat so definitely won't be doing anything till there is a drastic change in the prices.
