my bro's gtx 285 died on him. he needs a replacement. i was going to suggest he gets an ATi 6850 which should be a nice upgrade. MSI ATI Radeon HD 6850 Cyclone Power Edition 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

i would like to know if there will be a compatibilty issue with his motherboard -> EVGA n680i SLI. i know he wont be able to run 2 ATI cards in crossfire on it, but will it run one ATI without an issue?

lol to this one!

Any motherboard with at least ONE PCI-E x16 slot on it will run any graphics card! So YES he can run an ATI card on the Sli board without any problems.

When it comes to SLI/CF, certain chipsets will only allow certain types of manufacturers cards to run on the boards i.e. only sli or only ati!

and to the 6850 being a "nice" upgrade. tbh, not that much, it isn't that much more powerful than the GTX285. Look into a GTX560 (non ti) or 6870, then that will be a nice upgrade!
