Hi Guys

Its getting close to Xmas :) which means new car time. The s80 is a good car, but time to change again and variety is the spice of life etc etc :)

Requirements to start with are:

1. Petrol
2. V8 but will consider others (supercharged v6 etc)
3. Saloon preferred, or estate
4. Budget is around £15k, but happy with less or a bit more
5. Approved used preferred
6. Will be kept for 1 year

Ive been looking for a wee while but as mentioned, December will be purchase time really. So far my list is the following:

1. Jaguar XF SV8 - Approved used for £15k to £18k with lowish miles
2. Merc CLS55 AMG - Approved used around £16k
3. Chrysler 300c 6.1 SRT - Seems reliable and Evo rate it well (£12kish)
4. Merc E500 - None for sale now but missed a nice 09 plate for £15k

They all have advantages and benefits with the 300c being a surprise entry but does look quite dated. The E500 is the newer shape but they don't come up often.

No BMW's in there but if the M3 Saloon was cheaper that would be ideal. Likewise, the Lexus ISF is around £20k but fits the bill for me.

Looking for anyone who has had experience on the cars mentioned above, or anyone who thinks I've missed some contenders for the list too.

Know nothing about any of them. If I was to pick though it would be the jag, purely for the looks.

Watched a old episode of top gear the other day and JC loved the SV8 when racing it across England. Stunning car.

I wouldnt even have that CLS over a W220 S-Class (and neither did my dad who had one), let alone a W221 S-Class which is a whole generation newer and just far far better.

That CLS is based on a W211 E-Class which is a car available for £3k now, and was launched back in 2002!

The 221 S500 wont be as quick of course, but they do still have nearly 400hp so hardly bad :)

The Jag, you get way more for your money.
Newer
Faster
Better handling.

They are superb cars, all the Merc has over it is the engine but slower.

I've driven the XF Jag, they feel smaller than they are to drive and an exhaust system will get that V8 rumble too. Jag be my choice!

The Chrysler is garbage compared to the rest of that list.

I understand the thought, as that's what I thought too... only when I read some reviews did my interest grow

I have driven a non SRT 300c. Even a Veyron engine would not make the rest of the car on a par with your shortest. It's just not even approaching the same league.

I'm afraid the audi's don't do it for me, don't know why.

I did consider the s6 v10 but wasn't sure on reliability on non approved used.

Maybe slightly left-field, but....link.

8 cylinders, saloon, and if you're only keeping it for a year then the chances of it throwing something ruinous at you are lessened.

Audi S4 (2007/8ish) has a 4.2 V8 before changing to a 3.0T V6.

The V8 should be within your £15k budget, not sure sure on the v6
