Hoping some of you guys on here can help.

I applied for a help desk IT role at the NHS a good few months ago and last month I had an interview on the 15th May which turned out to be successful. I was told I was successful on the 18th. I have since tried contacting via email twice for an update on the progress and heard absolutely nothing. The guy that interviewed me has added me on Linkedin which is a positive sign.

I am just wondering how long I should wait, I know they are hiring four people and it will be slow with the current situation and with it being the NHS. I was just looking for some advice on how best to approach it without being unprofessional or sounding desperate?

Cheers

You have waited long enough. I would have contacted them around 4-5 days after to ask for further news. Not unprofessional as if anything, they aren't being exactly great...all it takes is a quick e-mail to reassure you or explain they are working on confirming the next stages.

And as for desperate? Not at all. You would like the job and right now, it's a tricky climate out there.

Thing is I have contacted twice via email directly to one of thecpeople who interviewed me. They haven't replied to either.

Ill try calling tomorrow as I'm just about to start a shift.

Thanks

I know and that seems pretty rude but it doesn't necessarily mean that he is ignoring you, anything could have happened at least if you ring you'll have some closure.

You're likely to be waiting on the pre-employment checks. I imagine references are particularly slow at coming back at the moment, as those individuals may even be on furlough themselves?

For all you know the HR numpties have been furloughed or fired/left/redundant. Get on the phone. For all they know you may have had offers elsewhere and need to weigh up your options. 2.5 weeks is a long time to wait for any sort of written confirmation from them, and ignoring 2 emails is downright rude. No matter what issues they may be having, they should have communicated any delays to you. You're right to be concerned! Get on the phone.

Depends on the NHS trust and what they do (acute, primary, secondary, ccg commissioning etc) to their level of resource available. Some trusts are in a very challenging & resource intensive position at the moment.

They are all prioritising front line/covid response.

Phone them, they will have a mammoth amount of emails to deal with at the moment etc.

If they have confirmed sucess subject to..... and you have this in writing, it will take weeks to process the checklists at the moment before sending you a formal offer.

Are these members of HR? If not just contact HR. HR will be processing everything for you anyway, and will know more than the interviewers at this stage.

They could just be waiting on references.

So I had the interview on the Friday and I was contacted on the Sunday to say verbally over the phone I was a successful candidate and they were very impressed with me. This was the woman that interviewed me and she said it would take longer than normal due to the current situation but to sit tight. I have since emailed her twice asking for an update with no reply at all. I am now starting to worry that something has gone wrong and I really wanted the job :/

Was OP successful then? Not so sure if OP got the job or not?

Sorry i was actually just being a bit silly. :o

@DezUk On a serious note, some jobs have been pulled due to the C word. I 'had' a job for 2 hours then they rang back to say circumstances have changed. Unfortunately the last to know/last ones to be treated with respect are the ones at the bottom of the pile...trying to get the job.
