Advice on a lemon

Rather more replies here than I was expecting :p

The car's a petrol which I suppose makes me extra lucky to break the EGR, but it is still perfectly driveable at the moment so I guess I'll keep an eye out on the bay/local scrappies and/or just drive it until it explodes

In terms of the EGR just get it blanked off as it doesn't do much. For the rest an engine swap is the most sensible option.

Oh lordy lordy, everything DannyW says is pure gold

Anyway - what symptoms does the car have that means so much needs replacing?

Something is wrong with the piston rings, it's burning a decent amount of oil and chucking out smoke. For some inexplicable reason ford are refusing to sell just a set of piston rings to my local garage and ford themselves refuse to do the repair at all...

Fantastic thread.

mnet674 buy the engine off DannyW, then do what he does sell it on ebay stating "Original engine, runs like a deam, never had ANY problems what so ever!". Hell by both engines and get Danny W to build you a twin engine set up using parts from a push bike!

Back on topic though: I'm not sure you have a leg to stand on unless you can prove that it was neglect? Even if it was, how could you prove that the place you bought it from knew about it? Bit of a minefield I think.

I'm still intruiged as to how he managed to buy so many high street items that:

a) She then decided she didnt like
b) He didnt take back for a full refund, instead chosing to sell on Ebay...

It really is very confusing, I cannot for the life of me figure out whats going on there :D

Funny thread, however there's no need to take the **** out of his girlfriend though. I'm sure all of you geeks are fighting them off...

Partly agreed in that I've already said leave his GF out of it (The mentions were there to point out its unlikely the tat he'd peddling on Ebay is hers) but I dont know where you get your latter point from, I think almost all Motors posters have long term partners/wives/girlfriends/whatever they are called this week.

Remember, that Motors is where people end up when they move on from fiddling with thermal compound :p

I'm intruiged as to how you directed this discussion about a Ford Mondeo with a broken engine towards the ins and outs of some other guy's ebay clothes selling.

Honestly, we could have somebody on here pop on and explain how he routinely murders small babies for the lulz and we'd STILL have people whinging at those who had a go at him for it.

Because DannyW offered the guy an engine and showed us a link to his latest ebay auction and it went from there :D

Hopefully it's allowed the OP to decide whether to take him up on his offer or not :p

Plus the OP got his advice about his EGR problem and everyone else got a good chuckle so all is good in the world and we can sleep soundly tonight.

Who cares? It's more entertaining than talking about a Mondeo where previous typical Ford owner hasnt maintained it properly :D
