Hi,
I bought an 03 plate Mondeo in Sep 09, 56k on the clock, full service history, no mot failures, drove fine and so on. Now at around 60k miles the engine light popped on so took it down to a local garage to investigate. The long and short of it is that along with a knackered EGR system, the car requires new pistons, crank shaft bearings, rings, valve stem seals and so on amounting to more than £2500 of repairs (and that's at a friendly independent garage). The mechanic told me the problem is likely to have been caused by a previous owner running the car dry of oil...

Do I have a leg to stand on? (I bought the car from a dealer for £3k)

I think you are out of luck being that long since you bought it.

Look for another engine, its pointless spending 2500 quid on a repair.

Email me I have an engine for you for £500 with 90 warrenty

a) No business to be conducted on this forum
b) Why would ANYONE buy anything from you after the posts you make on here about the way you sell cars to people!?

But it's got 90 warranties, surely one of them's got to be legit, right?

I'm more amazed by the fact he's confident he 'has an engine' when all he knows is the car is an 03 Mondeo :/

You got a mondeo that was 6 and a half years old for 3k, sounds like they saw you coming.

Sorry to hear you have had so much trouble with the car, but as already said i think you will be out of luck getting any sort of compo from the garage.

My advice would be to get another quote for the work before you agree to anything and maybe think about scrapping it for something worth 2.5k

i know little about mondeos, but being that age and having an EGR system to fail - won't it be a 2.0 16v Duratorq TDCi ?

He is making the assumption it is a TDCi I would imagine.

It really saddens me that people like DannyW attempt to operate in the motor trade :(

I have a 2.0 Tdci engine and a 1.8 Petrol engine, both engines came out of crash damged cars which were running fine

If I were to sell an engine to anyone on here or on ebay I would meet the buyer myself or they come to my house and exchange all my contact details (with proof) And I would also write and sign a 3 month warranty agreement

Nothing dodgy about that...

I'd rather run through a live minefield than buy anything motor related from you.
