Advice on a new gpu

My 4870X2 died on me at the beginning of the year and I sent an RMA, to which they've said they'd give me £50 refund
This seem like a decent amount to be getting or should I say something?

I've got a budget of £200, including the refund and the XFX Radeon 6950 seems pretty good, or is there another gpu that's a better performer at a near enough price?

thats the best option if you want Ati, nvidia wise you can get a 480gtx for the same money which on overclock is near a gtx580 . Both offer great performance, just comes down to what you personally prefer.

I'm most like to go with the 6950 at the end of next month.

But does £50 seem a fair amount? On ebay they vary from £50 to £110

They could argue current value is ~£50 - but i'm pretty sure their warranty terms are that they will replace the card with a card of equal or better performance. If they can't do that then they should give you a voucher that allows you to buy a card that matches the performance of the 4870X2.

Since a single HD 4870 performs on the same level as a HD 5770, and a £50 voucher won't even buy you one of these - then I reckon £50 is far too low. Something of the level of a 6870, 5870 or GTX 460 1GB should be about on-par with a 4870X2 in terms of pure gaming performance. These usually cost around £150.

The problem is that there are retailers which include a reasonable use clause and hence try to fob you of with a meagre refund.

TBH,this seems to be reasonably common with computer parts retailers. If you bought a new TV and it broke you might get it repaired or get a replacement for free.

The fact they are offering a refund is accepting that they are obliged to honour a warranty by law, they wouldn't just give £50 away to make you happy; I would have demanded more or equivalent replacement personally, atleast.

In regards to buying a new card, I suggest 6950 1GB (£185) or 6950 2GB (£200)

What they do is calculate how long you had the card and deduct a certain amount of money from the purchase cost for every month the item is used.

It is an absolutely rubbish method of doing things TBH (for the consumer that is). It seems that only computer parts retailers try to get away doing this!

Well I did have it practically from release, and that's a stupid method to use

Just got off the phone, said the reason why it's so low was because i've had it for 2 years

slightly ridiculous as they send it back to Sapphire and I didn't hear from them for about 4 months
