Hello. :)

My PC is now getting a bit dated, and with the new conroes and AMD price drops, now seems as good a time as any to replace.

I already have all my peripherals, as well as hard drives, dvd burner and sound card which are reasonably new. I also have a spare AGP Radeon 9600 kicking around.

Making the system upgradable for the future is a priority right now - i'd rather take a temporary dip in performance by using my old card and hard drives and get a better processor for example.

I would like to overclock, but nothing too drastic.

£750, which I could push to £800 if needed.

Thanks muchly ;)

To be frank I'm not bothered either way, as I'm sure I can find something else to do with the card regardless - but if I can run off my older card for a while, then upgrade in 6-12 months, without getting a rubbish motherboard or losing vast amounts of performance, It would mean I could buy a better basic sytem to upgrade later.

My plan was to buy the best RAM, motherboard, CPU, PSU, case, and possibly graphics card I could afford, then upgrade with raptors, new sound card, tv tuner and maybe a second graphics card.

Basicly, If my current card will cripple my system and/or give me problems with selecting motherboards, then I'll ditch it. Otherwise, it gives me a bit more cash to spend on other things.

Thanks

well since that card is agp and new boards are pcie then you wont be using it. SO ti will depend on what level you look at then for either cheap board for now or what.

Okay, here is my planned spec so far. (all prices inc vat)

Total : £611.95

In addition I already have my hard drives, my DVD-RW drive and sound card.

Things still to get
  • Case
  • Graphics Card

Budget left £140 - £190

Is the system so far okay, and what can I get in the way of a graphics card, bearing in mind I'll have to shell out maybe £50-£80 for the case.

Normally for graphics card i would spend a lot but this one i heard is quite decent

- Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO - Retail (GX-044-CO)

As for a case, its really up to you what turns you on ;) just make sure it has decent cooling.
