Advice on brands

So just over a year old my EVGA 3080 Ti developed a fault and EVGA were unable to repair/replace so offering a refund. I've used EVGA for what feels like forever due to their stance on watercooling (return the card to stock before sending it to us and as long as the cooling didn't kill it we will honour warranty).

So my question, what is my play? I kinda see it as a "may as well 4090" moment but i want to continue with water, I see inno3d does pre blocked GPUs but they are never in stock. What do you do? Do you go ASUS/MSI etc and just accept no warranty? I'm just trying to figure out options before i commit.

Thanks in advance

The Inno3d ichill is limited to 450w , not sure if that would bother you but it seems bit odd to have a watercooled card with lower power potential than the FE.

If I was looking to get a 4090 for WC set up then I would be looking for an FE or because they are so rare whatever was the cheapest. You are taking the cooler off so thats not an issue so pay as little as possible. If you want extreme performance then the FE , Gigabyte Auros or Asus Strix are full 600w iirc but most of the others are limited to 450w. I think Asus do allow the removal of the cooler and still honour warranties but not totally certain and it may have changed.

A lot of the time you are limited by what waterblocks are actually available or by which one you like the look of.

Thanks for the reply, I agree about the low power but at the moment i'm just trying to decide how best to proceed with a £2000 purchase lol. In my pursuit i have gathered the following:-

1. Palit - if their stickers which covers screws have been damaged the warranty is void. (email below)

Dear customer

Thank you for the mail.

According to our warranty policy when the graphics card have one of below conditions then it will be out of warranty.
1. Removing or changing the original fan from the Palit graphics card.
2. The warranty sticker is missing or damaged.
3. The S/N sticker is missing or damaged and can’t be recognized.

If you want to change the cooler we would like to suggest you to do it after the warranty expired.
Please consider more before you take this movement.

Thanks.
Best regards

2. ASUS - No presales email address, tech reachable by webform or phone but wouldn't answer the warranty question. Can't find anything on the site (might be looking for the wrong thing?)
3. MSI - Awaiting response
4. Gainward - Awaiting response

I'll update as i get info in case it is use to others

My 4090 Zotac Trinity Oc had no warranty stickers anywhere and EK are releasing a block for it in January. I have an FE now in a EKWB but had i still had the zotac would have been getting the EK block for it :)

Oh i forgot about zotac, i built a machine for someone with an AMP a long time ago i'll reach out to them too
On the Zotac warranty it did state that the cooler was not to be removed but then if they have no stickers on them how would they know ;)

Interested to hear Asus response although my warranty seal has been removed with a hair dryer and scalpel and is put somewhere for safe keeping  I typically find however if a GPU is bad, you'll find out pretty quick otherwise its they're fine for the long haul.

My EVGA was great for a year then suddenly it windows would alert like the GPU had been unplugged, EVGA reported a failed VRM. Its because of that i don't want to be year 2 of a warranty and be told "Ahhhh sorry fella but the looked at it funny"

Zotac just emailed me back to confirm they have a similar warranty to EVGA.

"As long as you will keep the original cooler for RMA then it should be fine.

Just remember to put everything back to original condition."

Kindest regards,
Eurotech Team

So i guess i have an AMP edition inbound.... if i can find one

probably why they didn't bother putting any warranty stickers over the screws , also saves them a bit of cash not having to buy all the little extra stickers for the cards

In stock, do you need the Amp version?

Seeming as Zotac actually answer customers emails you may want to ask if the 2 models share a PCB or look for some teardowns on youtube. If like Jay says EK are releasing a block for the OC model in Jan you may want to get one and test it for the couple of months so you know it works before putting a waterblock on it.

Was the Zotac in stock earlier as saying pre order now ? don't need one as got an FE just interested :)
The Zotac Trinity stock / OC models are a more basic design than the amp version ( 14 vrm vs 24vrm ) but both will work absolutely fine especially if you are water cooling the card and the EK block will fit both PBC :)

Yeah was in stock when I linked. All gone now. I have not checked but I guess the AMP version is the +500w bios so needs the beefier VRMs whereas the stock/OC will be limited to 450w

I am not in market for 4090 but may consider the 7900xtx if the performance falls where it should. I only have a single 360x60 rad so do not want to overstress the cooling and a lower power gpu is a factor for me.

I will try and get a reference card on release day but if I cannot I can wait. I know this may not be a factor for most people but I am really not a fan of the Nv PCB being so wide and relatively short. I am sure a lot of people will do amazing builds with them but I prefer the longer line of the 3000 series and this gen of AMD PCB is long and not fat. If i get a reference card I will check out what blocks are available and pick one I like. Oh and the power connector, I will be vertically mounting the gpu so with the standard 8 pin cables I can use 90 degree adapters and hide them completely. I disliked the Nv power cable on the 3000 series FEs and lets be honest the situation has not improved lol.

Thank you for all the replies.

I'm not in a rush to get the PC running at the moment I paid over the odds on my 3080Ti (£1500) and i'll be damned before do that again. I must admit i'm not a fan of the 12VHPWR connector so may go back to AMD i had a Sapphire 7970 GHz edition back in the day.

A Seasonic Prime SSR-1000PD 1000w (Platinum 80) should be more than man enough to drive this right?

Ouch

I am not sure anyone actually likes it.

Yes excellent PSU and more than enough for 4090.

When the new "Smart" ATX 3.0 psu are in use they communicate with the 4090/4080 and iirc a 1000w ATX 3.0 psu will only supply 450w over the 12VHPWR cable and you would need a 1200w psu to be able to supply the full 600w. With your psu being the old "Dumb" spec it will supply whatever power is drawn by the gpu until the over power protections kick in , which they would not if gpu was working correctly

Sorry about the lack of update Work and Hospital has kept me very busy....

So where am i at the moment, ZOTAC has confirmed that they will support the waterblock but such a block is not available at the moment. But if rumor is to be believed then we will see a 79xxX3D CPU in Jan so as i need to wait for the ZOTAC block to be launched I may as well change this to an upgrade/ rebuild post. I currently have the following:-

Fractual Design Define S (modded to have an open front for airflow)
ASUS Crosshair VIII Hero
Ryzen 3900X
36GB G.Skill 3600 RGB Neo
500GB Samsung PCIe3 M.2 NVME
4TB Samsung 860 QVO

Cooling is a pair of 360mm EK Coolstream PE rads (one in the roof and one in the front), EK CPU block (I think a Supremacy) and Noctua NF-F12 PWM ChromaMAX fans

I'm thinking new year, fresh start! So if the X3D CPUs do arrive where should i take this? I'm thinking

Corsair 5000D Airflow (I think it would be cool to build in)
ASUS Crosshair X670E Hero (I really don't need the wifi that they all come with but i'm used to ASUS)
Ryzen CPU........
36GB RAM (Open to suggestions here had some bad times with Corsair so went G.Skill)
ZOTAC 4090 ( :) )
I have some storage coming my way from a failed test at work (A pair of Seagate 530s one in 1TB and another in 4TB)

Now do i use the existing watercooling or update? I'm going to need a new cpu block due to AM5 so whats a few extra bits.......
