I'm currently helping my mate build a PC, finding it a tad hard to work around a budget, and im not 100% sure about some facts so i'd appreciate some help.
He's just about got everything sorted, basically just needs a Mobo/cpu/ram, he's going to be using this for gaming but also for Solidworks (CAD) for Uni work.

I originally gave him this list,

AMD X4 955 BE

Asus M4A78LT-M LE AMD 760G

Patriot G 4GB PC3-10666C9

Obviously I've gone for the cheapest Phenom quad along with the mobo and RAM.
Although what would he lose if he went for the Athlon x4/AM2+/DDR2 memory? As i'm on a budget so I'm trying to get him the performance he needs for as cheap as possible without sacrificing too much.
I presume all AM2+ motherboards will have had their BIOS updated for the phenom chips nowadays? Aslong as it supports 125 TDP etc.

Ah, I kinda of presumed it would do all together. Tbh i don't 100% what he will be using, All i know is he's doing an electric engineering degree :o

On the recommended specs it does say 6gb+ of RAM, i presume he'll be fine with 4gb?
Obviously depending on what level he uses it as.

I've also had a look to see if this supports CUDA although it seems to be abit bare with results. Although considering the price difference vs Nvidia and ATi, its probably not worth it i guess.

Edit: Also the website claims 2007-2009 are not compatible with Win7? i've yet to not get a program working in Win7, so i presume this is just for support purposes?
