Current Build:

-Asus M5A87 Mobo
-MSI GTX 970
-FX-8350 (Stock Cooler)
-1TB HDD
-12GB RAM
-Windows 10
-Samsung CD Drive
-650w OCUK PSU

New build:

-Corsair Carbide SPEC-01 Case
-Asus Sabertooth R2.0 Mobo (new)
-MSI GTX 970
-FX-8350 (NOCTUA NH-D15 COOLER)
-250GB SSD (Install OS HERE)

-12GB RAM (old)
-Samsung CD Drive (old)

So....

I was going to pay someone to install all this for me.. But I wanna learn myself.

1. Is it difficult?
2. Do i need to buy a new OS if installing on SSD?
3. Any videos/guides you could share with me?

All advice is appreciated :D

If you've got your windows licence key (or your windows 7/8 key if you upgraded), you can download the installation media to a USB stick - needs to be bigger than 4GB.

Assembling the hardware itself is pretty straightforward. You can't really connect things wrong as the plugs won't fit and it is good fun.

If the NH-D15 is anything like the NH-D14, it'll be easy to install and the instructions are pretty good.

When I install windows, I only have one drive plugged in i.e. the SSD I want to boot from.

Great advice thank you ! :)

Saved me £80+ on os :D:D

Yes, go to this link and you can download the media creation tool.

I'm still on 7/8.1 across my PCs, but I've used this to rebuild a friend's Win 10 PC when she somehow borked a load of drivers.

The NH-D15 does fit in exactly the same way as the D14 I've got (just looked at the online manual). Just make sure you have a long cross-head screw driver in case the accessories kit doesn't have the wrench I got with the D14.

Also do you think i'd be better buying a new HDD? And just copying the files over i want? Pictures, Steam games/account/save files, etc?

What is that power supply ? Is it an OCUK own brand unit ?

If you are keeping the same cpu why are you buying a new board ?

The D15 won't fit in the Corsair Spec 01 case as it is too big. Not sure that case is much better than the one you already have.

Yes overclockers brand. And I need a new motherboard because it doesn't have the vrms to support 8 cores so I only get 40fps.

I got a new case because the board was incompatible on Pcpartspicker.

Have you been close to filling your current HDD? If not then you probably don't need a new one.

One thing i would recommend is that, when installing windows, you move your documents and pictures to the HDD (you can do this in the install process or afterwards).

You can also define multiple libraries on steam. So i typically put newer games on the SSD and older games on the HDD.

I would suggest that you buy a good quality power supply. The OCUK own brand units are not meant for anything more than low end systems (Office pc's etc). A 550W unit would be enough, so something like the SuperFlower Leadex Gold 550W @ £64.99.

The Motherboard doesn't affect your frame rates. Your current board supports 140W TDP cpu's. The FX-8350 is 125W TDP. As long as you are not going for high overclocks then it will be fine.

The Corsair Spec-01 is an ATX case the same as your current Zalman Z9.

I made a thread about my processor and came to the conclusion i had to replace my 5/6 year old board whether it was faulty or not. also my ocuk is 650w. Power is power no?

Looking at your other thread you already have the new board ?

A 650W psu is not always a 650W psu. There should be a label on the side of the psu that says what is available on the 12V rail. My guess is that it is nowhere near 650W.

But what would that possibly affect?

It may not supply enough power to your graphics card or CPU. It will also be less efficient and probably won't last as long.

Build went great! Booted up first time.. A couple of confusions with software but that's just because of my lack of experience... Thanks all for help :D :D
