Just did a deal on a used 2.5 year old car.

Been offered "Gap insurance" for 3 years for 300 quid. Is it a con or does it actually do something?

Also, they asked about this "protective spray" called Safeguard, for another 200 quid. Supposed to protect paintwork and upholstry. Anybody any experience on this? My gut feeling is that it is yet another useless addition, but not sure.

Thanks

Gap insurance is like any insurace you are not legally obliged to take, it's money wasted if you never use it. Without knowing the type of car it is difficult to know if its good value or not. Safegaurd like every other such 'treatment' is a waste of money in my expeirnece. Stick the £200 in the bank and put it towards a nice detailing in 12 months time.

GAP Insurance can be had online for around £100 online unless the vehicle is worth a fortune. There are various types, return to invoice is the only one worth considering.

Supagard can be had off ebay for a tenner, and often less than that.
