Hi all,

Soon going to Australia via Dubai and have a D3100 with the 18-55 and 55-300 VR lenses. Got a Lowepro Fastpack 350 backpack which I keep my camera / lenses in (keep the 18-55 fitted normally with the other lens in the bag too).

Also recently bought a Manfrotto Tripod (MKC3-P02) which I was thinking of trying to bring with me as I am keen to get some photos of the Dubai skyline during an overnight stopover.

What i'm wondering is if it's worth bringing the tripod? I'd have to bring it in hand luggage as my main luggage would be checked through to the UK most likely (also means don't have to drag it around with me). If it's worth bringing it, any recommendations on how? I can place the legs of the tripod in the netting on the side of the backpack but would need to secure the top somehow... think that's probably my best bet.

Annoyingly if I'd have grabbed the AW version of the same backpack I'd have had a loop at the top for the tripod :( Guess it indicates that its my best way of securing a tripod though, just need to find something suitable to loop around the tripod and to somewhere on the backpack :)

Any help/advice appreciated.

Cheers,
Alex

Any sort of drawstring with a tightening toggle thingy on it looped through the top carry strap should do the trick. If you can't scavenge one from somewhere then searching for drawstring cord and drawstring toggle on ebay will find you what you need.

Until recently I just used a mini-tripod but decided to upgrade before my Dubai trip, hadn't noticed until last few days about the lack of tripod attachment.

Any idea on something which could be gotten last minute at all as a solution? Drawstring/toggle sounds great but not sure where i'd find one with not much notice.

Longer term will probably replace the Fastpack 350 with the AW (or alternative, though the current backpack has been fine otherwise so far) but need a short term solution for my upcoming trip :)

Cheers,
Alex
