Hi All

I deliberating over a choice of motherboard at the moment for a system I am putting together based around either a Sandybridge or Ivybridge cpu. As my system is mainly for gaming and having read 8 Packs review I am drawn towards the Asus Z77 Maximus Gene V http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-516-AS I plan to watercool both the cpu and gpu. Any thought on my choice or is there a better alternative, as the specs are getting me a little confused :(

I have this board, no CPU so I cannot tell you much yet, but it seems a nice little package and is well specced in terms of CPU / RAM power etc.

I spent a long time choosing it and I'm happy it is a good board for the money - after all, it is a top-spec board only cheaper because it is m-atx - the full version is very expensive but essentially they use the same kind of tech.

If you decide to go Ivy mate the Gene has a built in Samsung profiles within the Bios DDR timings menu that sets very high performance timings for you. It has three presets from what I remember all where developed at great effort and detail by Shamino. 2x 4gb Tight Timings, 2 x 4gb Medium Timings and 4 x 4gb Timings. Samsung DIMMS can RUN very low TRAS at high speed like 21 at DDR2600+. They will work well with a strong Ivy IMC.

My opinion on this board is its excellent with both SB and IB.
