Hi, I just finished my 12 month contract as Support technician for NHS, but they offered me an extra 12 months but i wont be doing technical stuff anymore but will be deploying and configuring citrix for whole of manchester with-in the NHS, but only thing i got experience using citrix is installing on end users workstations thats about it.

Is it complicated software and will i require some kind of advanced training?
I dont want to go into the job and look like a complete berk.

I like the "its not complicated" responses. If you are deploying and configuring XenApp there is a hell of a lot of design and planning to do. I don't know if you will be responsible for this side of things but personally I would say that at least a CCA training course or self study material to familiarise yourself with the Citrix terminology and topology is beneficial, if not essential.

You can install XenApp on a server and publish applications with little knowledge but when it comes to end user experience which ultimately is the goal here, its far from "not very complicated".

EDIT: Oh and there is a Server forum section right over here where your question would probably be better answered, and is a wealth of information too.

I second its not very complicated, terminal server on steroids...

anything you dont know google it, jsut dont alter anything that looks like it may break the farm!

Citrix not very complicated ... i dont agree with that citrix can be very complicated and can break quite easy

Easy setup guide is

Create farm > add servers into farm > publish apps on servers > ica client on users machine and a application set or connection to the servers in farm

But then there is loads more to consider Load Balancing , The initial setup and planning , Agee , Printers ect

I would suggest you get a CCA before attemping any of the above

This was my point. Not that its complicated and breaks easily or anything like that, just that you cant expect someone with no knowledge of the product to know Citrix terminology, topology and best practice to provide their users with a stable and usable environment.
