Depends what you do with your PC if you surf the net and listen to music then no but if you convert videos, play games use photoshop then yes ;)

Hi Willis, i surf ,listern to music all the usual and play racing games,my pc works great now but in the performance window in vista the cpu is the lowest score at 5.0 everything else is at 5.4-5.9 just thought about that extra bit, how much better you rekon 10% or more?

If it does everything you do well then dont just upgrade to get your vista score up. If funds are not a problem then stick a E6600 in.

yes guys i see what you mean , there was also a bit of curiosity about me posting this as my 16 year old son said i would see no difference at all, these E6600 are still quite a price, even second hand are still making £100 plus,i might wait till the price falls abit

personnally id go for the Q6600 rather then the E6600, which brings a question i have, currently my system does everything i need it to, to an acceptable standard :), it runs every game out at the moment (just not in high detail), now that 2008 is upon us will an upgrade to a Q6600 be a good idea (my reason for postings this question today it that the free delivery ends today :( so that give me a bit of a time limit to decide.

almost forgot, heres my spec :D http://www.kingwebs.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/News.html

You don't say what graphics card you are running, but my guess is its your graphics card holding you back not your CPU. I've had a QX6700 since release and if I'm honest i don't think I've ever used it to its full potential and could have easily just ran a E6600.

Hi QlimaxUK if you are happy with your system as you say and your 512mb GC I would wait, the new 45nm (wolfdale/ yorkies) will be appearing along with the new 9 series NV GC. ATI releases their new cards just before NV

sry, Scroll down on that link click the detailed spec link
but its an x1950 anyway :D, its my cpu holding me back trust me

i always use 1024x768, reasons beings, i choose it because its same as my desktop res (quick/easy flipping to background) and its plenty enough to make everything look good, i find the detail/texture settings make to biggest difference

I cant see why your system wont play things at full max settings apart from cyrsis ;)

my x2 4200 gets a vista score of 5.0 aswell, but i am still very happy with the preformance, the vista score is based on calculations per second so it doesn't count for everything.

XP's better for 'lower-end' pc's it uses half the resources that vista does, and dont be telling me it uses them more efficiently because it dosnt!
