Looking for some advice on fixing a pull up bar to a brick wall.

What would be the best type of fixings to use for this? A quick Google suggest a shield anchor would be heavy duty enough?

Also, I have a basic bosch cordless hammer drill. With the right drill bit, is this going to be powefull enough to drill into standard brick work? Or will I need something a little more heavy duty like an SDS drill?

Any advice is appreciated!

It depends, how many fixings for the bar and what's the expected load?

As for the drill, it'll be fine for bricks.

To me the fixings you suggest seem OTT, as they look like they support several times your bodyweight. Although I know enough to be dangerous, I'm neither a tradesman or amazing at DIY, but I'm pretty sure lesser fixings would do, as I believe the load taken by each fixing (roughly) stacks.

The problem with my above logic is that is that you're likely to have not completely uniform loading (I believe the term is active as opposed to static loading) , and the load is your (I assume) relatively precious body :p with that in mind, as long as it isn't extortionate vs the alternatives, I'd use the strongest fixings possible.

I would probably go chemical fixings myself for that sort of thing

Drill hole, fill with resin, insert bolt, let set

Thanks

I'm starting to read some horror stories where these things aren't fixed properly and dropping down mid pull up and causing serious injury

How would a resin based approach work?

Drill hole, fill with resin, screw bolt into resin whilst wet and once dry, mount my brackets?

This is the bar in question, had a look last night and it came with coach screw fixings.

One or two decent sized rawl plugs / screws per side would easily hold you. I put up a TV holder to a wall and as a test, hung off it. It was never going to move.

Thanks

Basically yes.

Cleaning out the hole is important once drilled.

You may need to change your fixings, basically these fix the "bolt" (but really you want threaded bar or fixings specific for this purpose).
These are set into the wall as opposed to screwed in

Some people do actually use resin to fix rawl type plugs in place so you can screw into them.

Its the belt and braces approach which for a few quid is what I would do when I am literally hanging off something

Either Resin bolts, or shield bolts will be plenty good enough. Personally I'd use shield bolts, as they're a little easier (less fussy about cleaning the hole out fully).
One thing to think about though, is where abouts in the brick you're going to be drilling. For shield bolts, due to the size & force of expansion when tightened, if they're too close to the edge of a brick they can crack the brick, meaning they're not going to hold properly (I'm not sure if this is a similar issue with resin, but I'd guess not, as they're not expansion fixings).

Your Bosch drill should be fine for the job (an SDS would make the job easier though). You'll want to start with a small bit, then expand in a couple of stages (depending on how big you need the hole), it'll make it a lot easier.

Thanks for the advice everyone

Feels like the resin approach is the way to go, I'd rather be a little excessive for piece of mind
