I know that the system is going to be expensive however i am building it for someone else who is paying me £2900 to build a extreme gaming rig for his son.. (he knows that i will be making profit of around £400)

please do not go on about the ddr3 ram as i already own this.. and the expense..
thanks..

any advice would be appreciated.. i will be overclocking the cpu

Urm is sli really a good idea? from what i understand unless your running at 1900x1200 (at least!!) its not all that worth it compaired to the price/power consumption...

Still think the gxt280's are too expensive too (i mean £350 odd for a card that will be replaced in 3 months when nvidia do a dx10.1 card) so you probably will feel less cheated with an x48 board and 2 4870's in crossfire (or jsut one for now and wait till the crazy x2 versions are out).

Final thought is the proc will be class, though msot of the cheaper ones will overclock up to at least that sort of range so it might be worth getting one of the slightly cheaper ones....

however the cpu will have more potential to oc to maybe around 3.7ghz on air..whereas others it will be difficult suchas the q6600 which would need watercooling etc.. to much hassle and not worth the risk as the rig is not for me..

Hummm you could get a modular one,.... but something that powerful would deffinatly insure crossfire would work....

Short answer nah if you have the cash it would be loads better than getting one and then needed a more powerful one down the line

^^ shaffaaf27 mate ^^ you're buying 2 Antec 1200's in your 2nd spec above?

OP: 2.5k is a lot to blow on a system that doesn't include at least one 30" monitor minimum.
Also, for those reddies, why not consider water-cooling and o/c whatever you get?

Lol if you want skulltrail get a mac pro! (the case is way nicer and i was eyeing one up today.... sooo quiet!)

Plus the OP alreadys has ddr3 ram... (i might use this spec in a few weeks time though...)

ahh sorry fro that 2nd actec 1200. well than thats another £100 saved :)

IMO i wouldnt use a tv card id choose two 4850s and PC8000 G.Skill and the dark power pro 650W be Quiet! PSU, but that was the max i could try to add before i added a TJ-07 and montiors etc instead.
