Hi all, I have a 11 plate Mondeo 1.6 Ecoboost 13,000 and I have had a noise today which I never notice before. When I go to change gear, I dip the clutch and I hear a noise which sounds like the gears disengaging, and then I pull the clutch out and I hear the same noise as if the gears are re-engaging on the drive.

I have never noticed this before and it sounds worse in lower gears or if you got a bit of revs when dipping and letting the clutch back out. It don't sound like a torque restrictor I don't think as it is not a clunk sound nor do I think its a mounting. First time ive noticed it to be fair, and I know I have heard it some cars before, even my last mondeo, but to be fair that was on 140,000 miles and I knew the clutch or box was on its way out.

I know it is normal to hear the gears selectors on cars when you move the gear stick, but this is not that sound as the linkage is quiet, this is on the clutch itself. Im wondering if it is on the thrust or if the car is Dual Mass flywheel, then it is on that but there is no rattle sound.

Does this sound a normal sound??? Any advice is appreciated as I will get it done under warranty if needed. Thanks.

If it is under warranty, wouldn't it be best to just take it to Ford and have them diagnose it?

I will, but I was just curious if the sound was normal or not, as I know what will happen the noise is a tricky one to hear, and cause I know the car I know the noise I aint heard before, and ford will probably drive it and say they couldn't find nothing as it is not a loud noise that is easy to hear, and not knowing the car they might not hear it.

But I will make an appointment, but I was just curious if it is a common noise that all. Thanks for the reply.

Gears engaging and disengaging are (or should be) pretty much silent, so I don't really understand the kind of noise you are talking about. Is it a grinding noise, like you are trying to force the box into gear without the clutch?
