Looking at moving into a new unfurnished 10th floor flat in the next few months and as a result need to get my hands on some furniture.

The building only has a single staircase and 2 small lifts so was after some advice for how to get a sofa up to and into the flat?

If anyone can recommend something that is even better, i guess ill be looking at some kind of modular design or flat pack ?

Loose budget of around £500

Thanks

Not being able to see how big the lift is, but guessing if it's in a tower block, it's not likely to be very big. I'd suggest you're unlikely to get a decent sized sofa other than a futon type of ikea sofa thing. Alternatively, if the stairwell is big enough you're just going to have to make the effort of carrying it up there.

Nabru.co.uk you can design a sofa online and get a quote. ordered a massive corner sofa for my lounge from them. really impressed with the comfort and wasnt too hard to put together. It came flat packed on pallets and all the pieces interlock together with no need for glue. very sturdy design, god comfort, looks a lot more expensive than the 1500 i paid. You get a lot of sofa for your money.

Maybe one of those "L" shaped ones, they will probably come in a few parts which might fit in the lift better.

Lift is around 6.5' high maybe 4-5' across and 4-5' deep.

Are delivery drivers likely to refuse to carry a sofa up to the 10th floor ?

I lived in a top floor flat at one point. We bought a flat packed sofa/futon from Ikea, and built it up in the room. It also went flat into a sofa bed if you have guests over.

I very much doubt the delivery guys will take it up the stairs. They like to claim the delivery is to the door of the building and not to your flat.

The split sofa designs is probably your best bet whereby you buy each unit and put them together into an L shape of your choice.

How about you and a mate just mauling it up the stairs? It might not be easy but it's only going to take 30-40 minutes at worst and you only have to do it the once.

I'd suggest getting one that either fits in the lift, or the stairwell or breaks into smaller parts which fit into the lift or the stairwell. :p

my dog can cut it down into bite size pieces if you like?

perhaps avoid the cheap sofas with the sewn in cushions,
or ask the neighbours what they did

You could try speaking to the neighbours and see how they managed it.

They should be able to let you know of any potential issues or names of supplier who are willing deliver it.

EDIT: Just noticed Bitslice beat me to it :)
