Hello, im looking at getting better internet connectivity upstairs in bedroom, i currently have power line adapters plugged into tv box but performance can be unstable every now and again. vm router is downstairs directly below room in question, im not really keen on running network cables around house so what would be the best way to go to getter a faster stable connection?

Thanks in advance

ps ive been looking at wifi mesh systems but unsure if i could run a network cable from a mesh unit placed upstairs.

The p9 is mesh Wi-Fi with powerline back haul. I have done speed test in all rooms on my phone though and got similar speeds. Performance will depend on your house though. Thick walls may restrict things a bit.

A cable is the only guaranteed way to get good speed. Call a couple of aerial installers and ask how much to run an external cable between the rooms with a socket on each end. It won’t be more than the cost of a mesh system.

Then you can plug in any access point you like and you’ll get much better WLAN.

I like Ubiquiti access points but TP-Link are cheaper and seem to be very quick.

Access point or switch? What would you recommend?

I've cabled the outside of mine and on the other end it's currently going into an 8 port switch

If you want to just plug an access point in, you can, some even have a pass through port, alternatively plug a switch in and you can then connect multiple devices, just depends on what you need, but multiple switches daisy chained isn’t a problem.

Both. Are you asking about an external access point? UniFi AP-AC-Mesh is the canny option. If you’ve already got a switch I’d need a good reason to change it.

Nope. Internal. Cable from the router downstairs that goes around the outside of the house into the back bedroom. Switch on the end of this, 8 port GS308, then PC, Chromecast, TV, PS4 off this via ethernet.

I then have a TP-Link access point TP-Link RE365, using this as a separate 5Ghz SSID for upstairs only.

I may look at swapping the TP-Link, not sure how 'good' it is really?
