Maybe I'm just a big drama queen but after being dragged across the coals for something by my bosses unfairly (as we are led to believe) I would be considering one of two outcomes:
1) I get the sack and start looking for another job
2) I keep my job... at which point I start looking for another job. Then taking great satisfaction in telling current employer where to shove it.
Neither of which would have spunking a load of cash on a new car as a top priority.
