Advice on hard drive speed

Hi,

I currently have the following drives:-

80 Gb Deskstar HSD72258 Sata 2.0 7200 RPM

160 Gb Maxtor 6 B16060 Sata 2.0 7200 RPM

500 Gb Seagate ST350064 USB 2.0 External 7200 RPM

500 Gb Samsung HD501LJ Sata 3.0 7200 RPM

The external is off unless I am watching movies.

The Deskstar and Maxtor both score around 122 on HDTach and the new Samsung which I installed yesterday scores 174.

Will it make a noticeable difference scrapping the Deskstar and Maxtor and simply working from the new Sata 3.0 drive? Or will I hardly notice it?

Hmm, it seems to me that if you're going to use just one hard disk, then it would be wisest to use the fastest one. Whether or not you notice the difference is really dependent on how I/O-bound your use is.
