Currently in my home network i have currently running a bt homehub and my parents pc connected to the hub via cat5 cables and two laptops connected via wireless. I currently uise the laptop and i am wondering how to get a better connection to the homehub could i use a second bt home hub as an access point?
And also i am a trainee technican so i am experimenting with vms. My computer broke so my hard drives are now plugged into my parents pc. i am just wondering if i could build a cheap sever under 100 quid got the case and cpu
Thanks
Paul

In what way do you mean a better connection to the HomeHub? If the signal is weak, either move the HomeHub or buy a WiFi access point that plugs into the HomeHub [plenty out there]. Some connect to the router via Ethernet, others connect to the WiFi and simply extend it.

I doubt you would be able to build a half decent desktop for less than 100 quid. If you want an actual server you will need to spend a bit more than £100!

I ment wireless range.
Also im bidding on a kit on ebay motherboard, cpu and memory for 20 quid
Motherboard: ASROCK P4VM890 SOCKET 478 MOTHERBOARD 3x PCI slots, 1x PCI Express x16 slot, 1x AMR slot 6x USB, 2x SATA, and Hyper-Threading Technology

CPU: Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 3.40 GHz, 512K Cache, 800 MHz FSB SL793 supporting Hyper-Threading Technology

CPU FAN:SPEEZE Socket 478 Cooling kit Slimline but very powerful and quiet.

2Gb of MEMORY: 2x 1GB sticks DDR400 PC-3200

Graphics Card: HIS ATI Radeon X1650Pro IceQ (256 MB) DDR2 1x DVI 1x VGA 1x S-Video Out DirectX 9 supported.

Sure you can get a cheap server for £20 but you might want to check the supported hardware list for VMware ESXi first before you buy it (assuming this is what you are using for your VM's), a P4 might not be the best proc for this......

As far as wireless range, I thought BT Broadband was the best wireless internet around :-P

Why not take the easy option and go wired using some powerline adapters?
nar wireless keeps going off
and im runnign vmware player
