I brought my son a pc for xmas but is having difficulty running some games due to not being able to support DX12. I know this is due to his graphics card and want to upgrade it but don`t know where to start. I wouldn`t know which would be compatible with his build so if I list specs was hoping someone could advise me.
His motherboard is a Asustek P8H61-MX R2.0
Graphics. 2047mb Nvidia GeForce GT 710
CPU. Intel core I5 2400s 2.50ghz
Ram. 16.0 gb DDR3 666mhz
any help will be gratefully appreciated

The GPU currently in the machine is the most basic there is and is only really useful for watching video's and not close enough to playing games. There is a couple of bits you need to be aware of before upgrading the GPU and that is PSU power, PSU power connectors and case space.

The CPU isn't the best either but will cope for the most.

Find out what PSU it has please and what is your budget?

Can you return that pc as im pretty sure people could spec you a better build than that that one for a reasonable price else your just going to keep pumping money into it.

That GT 710 supports DX12, its just a very weak card, paired with a 9 year old cpu which is also not the best, older RAM, sorry sounding negative here.... maybe a second hand gtx 1060 or simllar will get you the cheapest boost?

Yeah need to know more about the PC you bought and what the model is as it sounds like an old Business PC. Hope you didnt pay more than £100 for it as its not worth much.
Suspect it has a weak no-name Power supply without any PCIE leads too.

Noticed lots of "sellers" this Xmas putting out adverts for i5 gaming PC's and when you actually look at the spec its a 2nd gen Intel CPU with a weak Graphics card which has no chance at gaming.

Yes, scamming, scalping and shananigans going on big style at the mo.... hopefully this forum can steer potential buyers in the right direction.
