Hi there wondered if somebody could offer a word of advice, i bought a laptop a little over a year ago and im just about to upgrade its RAM and Harddrive.

The laptop is a Fujitsu Siemens V5535, bought mainly just for internet surfing. The memory inside the laptop is:

Installed Size 512 MB / 2 GB (max)
Technology DDR2 SDRAM - 667 MHz

Would it be advisable to get RAM with a 667Mhz bandwidth or would 800Mhz work aswell, and possibly be faster? DDR2 obviously.

I don't want to order 800Mhz then it not work =).

Second the laptop is:

80 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 5400 rpm

Would this H/D be ok?
Western Digital 320GB 2.5" Hard Drive Scorpio Black SATAII 7200rpm 16MB Cache - OEM

or would i need a Sata 150 harddrive rather then SataII? I'd like to take advantage of the faster 7200 Hard drive if its possible.

Probably really simple questions for you guys! :)

Thankyou in advance

The ram will be backward compatable so will just run at the slower speed off 667Mhz. Sometimes mixing ram of different speed can cause problems but its fairly rare in my (limited) experience.

Hard drive will work fine but just run at sata1 speed unless the motherboard supports sata2. If there any problems then most of the (seagate at least) have a jumper to limit its speed to sata1 speeds. Nice to go from a 5400 to a 7200 :)

Just wish my lapy had a sata drive as i am still stuck with a wee 40Gb ide one (for now) and a 250Gb one is £70.

Should be a nice upgrade if you are going to 2Gb of ram especially if its vista your running....xp will love it too of course :)

hi there,

thankyou for your speedy reply.

On that advice i've ordered 2GB of RAM (667) and that Hard drive.

Im running XP, it flies on a laptop like this compared to Vista =).

Hoping response time should generally be improved, with all the artwork on Itunes the computer bogs down and slows when scrolling through it. 7200 is about 20 quid more then the 5400 version but i think this should be worthwhile.

Once again, thankyou
