advice on mouse and keyboard

hey guys. as above. basically, currently have a microsoft keyboard and mouse set, around 30 so nothing special. only problem is the range on it is crap. im after a precise mouse and keyboard that has really good range and stays responsive within 3 or so meters so needs to be wireless. doesnt have to be a set. got between 70-80 to spend but anything cheaper that will do the job will be a bonus.

Nothing really from me on keyboards, but if you've got the cash to splash the MX1000 is the best mouse I've ever used, I love it.

My MX Desktop was good too if you want a set, the one with the MX700 and wireless keyboard, that was great. From my experience of Logitech stuff it's all been very good, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of their kb/mouse sets. If you steer away from the cheap end any of them should do that range easy.

Logitec sets have awful mice! you have to spend £75+ just to get a dfcent mouse.

ive got the logi s510media remote set. fantastic keyboard, remote control thrown in as well, RF so works 30-35feet away from the comp....but the mouse is shocking. So i bought an mx518, those combined make a fantastic set.

The Saitek Keyboards are fine except for one major fault: you can't push any more than 2 keys in the arrow area of the keyboard at once. My config in CS was based around arrows for movement and '/' for walk. You can't walk diagonally with that keyboard using that particular setup.

seems like theres a bit of conflict here guys which makes the decision all that more difficult. whats the general consensus. all im after is cordless mouse and keyboard that is precise and reliable at over 2 metres distance. oh, and what about bluetooth sts. never had one, but has anyone had problems with theirs

People will always recommend what they have used and had great success with. You can only speak from personal experience. The MS mice/keyboards I've used have been pretty rubbish. I had an entry level wireless Logitech keyboard that felt cheap and was not very good, but I sent it back without any trouble. I now have the MX1000 Logitech mouse and it's excellent. Super accurate and feels great to use. Highly recommended. Just look at the reviews of it. All the Logitech keyboards are pretty good (I have the Media Keyboard Elite and it's nice), it just depends what extra features you want on it. You can get the MX1000 with the MX5000 set from OCUK. They don't sell the MX1000 mouse on it's own. But if you bought the mouse and keyboard separately you'd likely need 2 IR/Bluetooth receivers anyway. The MX5000 is not a cheap set, but if you can afford it you won't regret it. Again, just google for reviews. Bluetooth is fine by the way.

well, check for yourself:

s510 media remote. great keyboard, great remote, shocking mouse. its fine for browsing and working in windows, but its awful for gaming. Thats why bought an mx518 to compliment them. game on the 518, browse with bundles mouse if im not at the desk. sorted

id agree with that. ive had two ms sets, the gf has another and they all suffer with signal dropouts

I had that keyboard setup for about 2 days before i rma'd. The keyboard is nice and the remote but the mouse is NO SWEARING!. Main reason i returned though was recurring problems with the keyboard not working

I've got the MX1000 mouse and the Media Keyboard Elite. A mouse is far more important to me than a fancy keyboard. As long as they keyboard doesn't look cheap and nasty, the keys are all solid and it does what it's supposed to, I'm happy. I just don't have a need for a lot of these fancy extras they put on them these days. The only hot key I ever use is for the calculator! The only minor drawback is that I have to have 2 receivers for the keyboard and mouse, but it works perfectly and there are no conflicts.

no swearing dude. star it out before the mods eat you lol. shame about the keyboard, mine is flawless but at least somebody else understands how bad the mouse is lol.

from what ive read, most probably go for the mx1000. so, only the keyboard to decide on now. any recommendations

I just went 6 metres away with my MX1000, into another room out of sight of the receiver, and it worked!! Not that this is going to be particularly useful. Can't recall the last time I used my mouse without needing to see the screen.

I'm not sure if the Logitech MX Revolution is supposed to be a new version of the MX1000. It seems similar, although is missing certain features the MX1000 has. I've never used it so can't comment. It's quite a new product though.

On the keyboard, I have the Media Keyboard Elite. It's pretty cheap and a solid keyboard in my opinion. I'm very happy with it.

Sorry, I do have a wireless keyboard. I didn't even notice that one on OCUK wasn't. There is a wireless version of that board but it comes with a mouse, but I just binned the that and got the MX1000. Not sure if you can still get this set (OCUK don't sell it) but worth seeking out.

Reviews I've seen of the MX Revolution have all been quite complimentary. It's very expensive though, nearly twice as much as an MX1000.
