Hi all,

im quite new to all this, ive spent the past week researchin parts etc and heres what I have found that looks good...I think!!!

ASUS Crosshair III AM3 - £140+

Phenom II x4 965 - £180+

Either 6gb xms3 corsair ddr3 ram - £120+
or 4gb corsair dominator xms3 £70+

Sapphire radeon HD either 4850 or 4870 - im not to sure how all this crossfire works but im sure 1 card will be enough for me.

Samsung 1TB 3gb/s 7200rpm hard drive - £50-60

ocz modxstream pro 500w - £50+

A Case....no idea yet....

Right so im sure thats all the key main components that ill need to get...

So a total of around 6£00+ is what its looking at going to be

If im missing anything or someone can recommend a better part for the prices etc please let me know:)

Will all this work fine? will it last a few years without a major update?

Thanks for any replys!! (FIRST POST WOOHOO!!)

thanks for the info....

now im quite new to all these numbers and models etc so can someone answer me something i think im missing but its obvious....

the phenom x4 965 is 3.4ghz...

i can see similiar priced intel processers but are 2.6ghz???

is there something other than ghz i should be focusing on? im going on the good old principle, 'The bigger the better!!!' is that not right in this case?

which system will work best, mine or the one Sfnx kindly posted for me?

Get 6GB of Triple Channel DDR3 if you're using a 64bit operating system, or 3GB if you're using a 32bit operating system.

Get the 4870 rather than the 4850. It's better and off the top of my head I don't think there's too much cost difference.

You can't compare AMD vs Intel using GHz, that's not indicative of performance. So don't worry about it. In general, the more expensive it is, the better it is.

I'm not sure about the 500W PSU. I learn the hard way not to skimp on the PSU. If I was building a system now I'd put a 850W PSU in it, but maybe a 650W would be fine.

Get a custom CPU cooler. Do your research, I've never bought a cooler for an AMD system - but stock coolers always suck ass.

For a case, how about an Antec 902 - good airflow. If I was building a system now, I would get an Antec 1200 because it had fantastic results with the heat-sensitive camera in CPC.

Don't forget the DVD R/W.
