Hi guys. First post from myself, but have been a bit of a lurker in the run up to this new system.
It's a medium-budget build. I'm trying to buy parts that will enable me to upgrade processor/gfx card in 12-18 months.

Any thoughts? I'd welcome any and all suggestions.

welcome to the forums

it's a lot easier if you post the whole picture and not just a thumbnail in the future ;)

on the spec, hipers go bang... I'd look at a corsaid 620W modular PSU if i were you, I hear great things about them

Why do you want to upgrade the processor in 18 months? Personally I'd either go for an E8400 now. Or, if you do want to change it in 18 months, an E2200

That cpu cooler is good, but it does get noisy when at full whack, personally I'd look at getting a tuniq tower myself.

Mobo wise, I'd recommend either the OcUK ip35 pro for £64.61 or an abit ip35 board.

It's always impossible to predict what will be new in 12-18 months but like Ben said, try getting an E8400 but an E2200 and a good overclock with the right cooling should last you that long. Will you be gaming on this machine?

Originally, I was going for the 8400 but we're talking (on overclockers) an 80 odd quid premium. Yep, I'm a gamer, but a budget-conscious one! The Tuniq tower was also originally in there - dropping it and the processor afforded me the sound card and an extra 2 gig of ram. I don't particularly have a budget, I just want to be a cost-effective as poss.

I'd get a 2200 and a tuniq tower in that case.

The 6750 ain't great value overall imo.

I think that'd be wise, there are enough arguments on techy forums all over the world whether you should be getting Duals or Quads, so a nice wee overclock and then you'll have 12-18 months to see what happens with prices, specs and overclocking potential.
