Advice on new build

Been out the loop for a long time on PC gaming gear, was looking to build a rig that would be best for multi boxing EVE online.

Budget £1000

Last month i visited the overclockers shop and picked up a GTX 770 Phantom 2GB, so will be looking to incorporate this card into the build.

I also have a new Corsair Builder Series CX 750W V2 '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply, i know this is a relatively cheap PSU so would be happy to upgrade if at all necessary.

I have no preference on colour schemes / makes / models just want the best bang for my buck.

Thank you in advance for any advice

Mike

I think you got the right forum, just the wrong day.. Ill make sure this thread gets seen.

Are you going to be overclocking atall?

Do you use the rig for anything else, other than EVE?

What resolution are you playing on?

waaay underbudget, but i think this should be okay for your usage

stick your psu and gpu and it's ready to go
red/black colour scheme
cpu comes with a free game, mobo comes with a free headset
mobo supports sli, if you ever do want to stick a 2nd 770 in there
your psu is okay. not the greatest, but definitely nowhere near bad...i'd save some money and stick with it for now

do you need os/monitor/mouse/keyboard?

Gonna be honest, id pack a 4790k in there,

Like ALL MMO's its heavily CPU bound so it will need a lot of power (the i5 being a great choice) but im not sure whether its single threaded or not, i doubt it is...

Thats why id go for the 4790k, still in budget too.

looks like a good set up, although as i've said before id get a corsair all in one water cooler before antec, but not because they are necessarily bad, i just haven't got round to reading up on them yet! but since doomed gave it the 'ok' you're probably ok! :p

Thanks guys very informative, I guess I'll wait till tomorrow to see what new deals are released.

Yes on the overclocking

I play a few other games but the EVE multi boxing is what i want the performance in at 1920 x 1080 res.

Would it be worth me taking 16gb of ram if i have the budget for it?

thanks again :)

Edit : have keyboard/mouse etc

Heyo, how many clients you looking to multi with, and what settings are you wanting? And for what activities in game?, that has a large effect on it, especially with multi.

Looking for about 6 clients total, activities activities to include mining + running 0.0 anoms depending on how i feel. not too bothered of what settings i play on just want them to run at a decent fps.

Alright, have you tried this on your current rig? Or don't have one?

I used to(around 10 months ago) run with 4 clients on max settings, 2 running WH anoms, 1 scout and 1 salvage, that ran fine most of the time, although sometimes I needed to tweak the settings down a bit, wasn't sure what was bottlenecking me, but for what it's worth I'll list my rig(have a hunch it might have been the CPU due to PPFX):

i5 2500k
16gb 1600mhz
GTX 670 2GB
2x256gb SSD in Raid 0 for software

Accounts aren't active or I'd go test it >:(

I am thinking 8gb ram might do the trick, I don't recall eve ever needing loads but then I never kept an eye on it, I have 16GB for video/photo editing. If you got 8GB you can easily add in 2 more sticks later if it's not enough for your needs. At the same time it doesn't cost too much to get 16gb upfront.

Edit: My Other thought was that you might want more VRAM if possible.

This is pretty much what I would go for, double the ram and see if you can swap your GPU for a 4gb version and you should be grand. Also if you can return that GPU you could always consider a R9 290 for £20 more, benchmark.

If you care about visuals/lights you can always get 3rd party fans and consider some ram from the avexir line up, if you want a quiet case there's quite a lot to consider, but cases are usually a matter of personal preference.
